Good afternoon friends,

 

 It is the eve of “Building a Sustainable Future in Rwanda Africa” Trip and I will update this blog site daily during our 10 day adventure so you can share in this amazing opportunity with us step by step.
Our attempt will be to build and complete a training kitchen building as part of the Covaga Innovation Centre. When completed, it will have four buildings: a boutique where members of the coop sell their products, a training kitchen and restaurant where Covaga members will earn how to cook healthy meals, a weaving studio and a meeting room to hold community meetings. and tools.
 
I cannot imagine anything more meaningful than travelling half way around the world and helping build a sustainable future for those in the greatest need.

We will be a team of 16 people that have come together through an organization called Developing World Connections. Some of us have already experienced these adventures together and some of us have never met but based on our correspondence and conference calls planning our adventure, I know lasting friendships will be built through this experience.

RWANDA INFORMATION

 

 

 

POPULATION: 10.6 Million (World Bank 2010)
CAPITAL: Kigali
LOCATION: Africa & the Middle East
WEATHER: The high altitude of Rwanda provides the country with a pleasant tropical highland climate. A long rainy season lasts from February to May and a short one from November through December.
GOVERNMENT: Republic; Presidential, Multiparty System
OFFICIAL LANGUAGE: Kinyarwanda (official) universal Bantu vernacular, French (official), English (official), Kiswahili (Swahili) is used in commercial centers.
MAJOR RELIGION(S): Roman Catholic 56.5%, Protestant 26%, Adventist 11.1%, Muslim 4.6%, indigenous beliefs 0.1%, none 1.7%.
MAJOR ETHNIC GROUPS: Hutu (Bantu) 84%, Tutsi (Hamitic) 15%, Twa (Pygmy) 1%.
